Magnum believes in HOPE!

Tonight Magnum was honored to be invited to the Volunteer Appreciation celebration for Hope Animal Rescues.  This organization saves dogs on their last day of life from animal control facilities and provides them with HOPE!  Magnum has a lot of experience with HOPE.  It comes from loving and taking care of people (and animals!).  Magnum was so happy to meet special guest, Laura Marlowe, author of Tommy the Throwaway Dog.  This story educates and inspires kids to be kind to our animal friends.  Miss Laura was so kind and signed a book just for Magnum!
Here is Miss Laura showing Magnum her personal note to him.  Magnum so loves this book we read it 3 times before bed tonight!

A wonderful night, with wonderful friends.  You all inspire us to work hard and play hard and be the best that we can be.

Goodnight!

Happy 5th Birthday!

Wake up Sleepy Head - it's your Birthday!
Magnum on today's early morning walkabout....

Magnum came to Hospice of Southern Illinois at the age of 2 1/2.  It's hard to believe that he is a big 5 year old already!  In those 5 years he has brought lots of smiles, stolen lots of hearts, and given lots of hugs.  Hospice is all about loving people and enhancing the quality of lives of patients and their families.
Magnum is our four legged hospice ambassador.

Here's to many more years of love and life!

Help us celebrate Magnum's birthday by attending Magnum's Birthday Party (July 23rd - see flyer below) or making donations in Magnum's honor to local dog charities:
(Edwardsville Humane Society, Spencer Kennel and CHAMP Assistance Dogs).
Happy Birthday to our wonderful big black dog, Magnum!

June 21st

Did you know that today was National Take your Dog To Work Day?  Magnum is sure lucky- every day is "Take Your Dog To Work Day" for him!    Although what we do doesn't seem much like WORK!  We are so blessed to be able to visit Patients and their Families at the Hospice Home.  Here we are headed thru the front door.  Notice we are both smiling as we begin our "work" to spread smiles around the Home.  (Thank you to fellow volunteer, Bette, for taking our picture!)
Happy Weekend to you all!

Petfood Forum, Chicago

Petfood Forum is the premier event for the global petfood industry. Petfood Forum announced:
"... a new partnership with Canine Helpers Allow More Possibilities (CHAMP). CHAMP is a non-profit organization that helps increase the independence of children and adults with disabilities by partnering with them - free of charge - with specially trained service dogs. Many have benefited from this service, including Petfood Forum’s opening keynote speaker, Kerri Morgan."  As part of this partnership, attendees were asked to support CHAMP by becoming a CHAMP Donor.
Attendees from all over the world met Magnum, along with other CHAMP Dogs, Fergie, Saki, Gracie and Twix.  Needless to say the dogs were very well received and gave lots of "hello's" and "hugs!"   It was an honor to be there representing CHAMP Assistance Dogs and sharing Magnum's work at Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Magnum did have some "down" time.  Here he is waiting for room service!  (Is he spoiled, or what?)
Where's my food?
Thanks Trouw Nutrition for including CHAMP and Magnum in the 2013 Petfood Forum!

National Volunteer Month

Magnum, TV Star!
National VOLUNTEER MONTH is a time to celebrate people doing extraordinary things through service.  At Hospice of Southern Illinois, we have a large core of very dedicated volunteers who help us every day to achieve our mission:  ...to enhance the qualify of life for individuals and their loved ones touched by a terminal illness.   In honor of National Volunteer month, a number of our volunteers were interviewed by WSIL TV in Marion, IL about their volunteer service.  They all spoke of their passion for helping people and the wonderful care provided  by everyone at Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Magnum was interviewed too and he demonstrated how he "shows love" to people.  We'll post the TV clip when it becomes available!

Happy Volunteer Month!  THANK YOU to all the fabulous volunteers at Hospice of Southern Illinois!

Magnum looked left...
Magnum looked right...

But Magnum did NOT see his shadow.  He and Punxsutawney Phil agree!  Looks like we are going to have an early spring!  Yay!

Thank you for the gift...

Magnum received two wonderful gifts today.  One is his new "Miss Piggy".  She squeaks and as you can see, she's a bit unraveled already!  (This means "enthusiastically loved"!)  The other gift is the welcome embrace Magnum receives every day from patients, family, friends and staff at the Hospice Home.  From a 10 year old little girl who laughs with delight as she plays with Magnum, to Dedo, Magnum's vibrant and wise grandfather... Magnum is a lucky dog indeed.  Thank you all for the gift of sharing your lives with Magnum and allowing him to "show love" and and play with you to his heart's content.
